Another Canuck saying hello

Greatings from north of the 49th....

Found this fourm through Ih8mud and really enjoy the topics. Great to see some expedition vehicles.

I have a 1987 BJ74 with a M101 trailer. Our last expedition was a 7000km adventure was Edmonton to Tuktoyaktuk on the Arctic ocean.

Was that Mat's post in the Coastal Crusier section. He's got a few of us on to this great site. Too much to read and not enough time. Cheers, John

The link worked fine for me.
Where you guys sleeping in the truck or in a tent? How long was the trip? Why so little pics? what was the weather like - temps, wind, etc? It looks amazing, especially the Ice Highway.

Welcome to ExPo Todd -

That BJ74 and M101 is a sweet combo. Sorry to hear about the broken window. Must have made that last strech a little brisk!

One of our best trips yet... We are planning to drive the truck to all three oceans in Canada. The trip took us 12 days with a few days of relaxing in Whitehorse and Dawson City.
We were set up to sleep in the back of the truck. I constructed a bed in the back for two people. It is cozy however it is great to pull over and have a good nights sleep. However, we did hit some great B & B's.
We could have not asked for better weather. Around -20 at night and -10 durring the day. A few snowstorms in northern BC and the Yukon.
The ice highway from Inuvik to Tuk is amazing. There were sections of ice where it was like driving on sheets of turquoise. The ice roads are about 6lanes wide. The best is when you are going around a corner on the ice highway. The ice is not banked so centrifugal force forces the truck to slide out.

I would recommend everyone to drive the dempster highway. 12 hours of pristine beauty.

Thanks....

In the back of the truck was our clothing, some food, bedding, satellite phone, camera, and laptop. The trailer had 150l of diesel, tools, spare tire, extra 12volt battery and our cooler.

Our best purchase for the trip was a $40.00 lunck box cooker.

http://koolatrononline.stores.yahoo.net/koolatron-lunch-box-stove.html

The weeks prior to our trip we would make our meals a little larger and freeze the leftovers in loaf pans. And, since it never got above freezing on our trip. We kept the cooler in the trailer filled with our loaf pans filled with leftovers.

In the morning we would pop in a frozen lasagne, soup, Mac and Cheese into the lunch box stoveand 1-2 hours later we would have a hotmeal. Bringing food save us a lot of cash. Especially when in Eagle Plains diesel was $1.50/L... Ouch....

As for the window. Luckily it had a tint film on it and I just put some clear duct tape on it to reinforce it. It lasted 3000km.

Neat trip!!

How did the diesel behave starting up in the cold each morning? I'd like to do the trip but the cold kind of makes it lose it's appeal. You need to come down and visit us "Canuck's" in Central America where you don't need parkas, block heaters and all that other cold weather stuff.
