Another Cdn M101 with plans

Hi folks. Lots of ideas here. I thought I too would start up a thread which will detail the use, slow build up, and changes to my Cdn M101. I've had it a few years already, so the few things done over that time period should give you an indication on the speed of change.

Many ideas are much the same as the tried and true thoughts of those before: Fenders, lid on shocks, RTT, pull out camp kitchen (drifta style would be nice), storage, water, fuel, battery/solar, etc.

It looked like all Cdn M101's at the beginning. I installed a plywood lid, and the Technitop RTT. A while later it graduated to an aluminum lid manufactured back east in Canada. I changed the drums to LandCruiser pattern so I could match the tow vehicle, then mounted some 35's. I wanted to stay SUA so that meant some custom fenders. Jason of http://www.cruisinoffroad.com/ obliged some ideas I had, and now its sporting fenders prototype #1. The fenders are built for the width of 315/75R16 on FZJ80 wheels.

Next up will be a sealing tailgate of some sort, some support legs, and perhaps a hitch receiver below the tailgate. Sandblasting and paint will happen after that, to hold the Lords of Rust away. Then to the nose box and interior.

Here's a link to a video of the trailer on a run through the Whipsaw trail September 2009: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gjEgvvNRFtw"]YouTube - Iltis Trailer on Whipsaw Run[/ame]

A little fender testing in September: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wf-tZYpwRY8]YouTube - Gregs trailer[/ame] New fenders side grazed once (not seen on video and not on that trail) due to my error (twists and weaves around some boulders in a slide area), but they did not hit on any drop offs or climbs. I was a bit surprised, as I expected with the large flat areas on the lower section of the fenders to have some dragging.

The cover is an ATV cover from Princess Auto (for those in Canada).

nice job !! now where have i seen those fender supports before ?
you should find them very solid, if i had to do mine again i think i would raise them up like yours and not do the spring over,

Thanks guys.

Yup, compliment in the form of mimicry. Over on Mud I had mentioned some mods would seem familiar to some. Forgot to put that on here as well. And I'm really liking the tent setup you have. That large fly giving covered dry space around the tent and trailer is something that would come in handy: Keep the covered area cleaner, less crap coming into the sleeping area, dry area when you get out, place to escape downpours, etc...

It seemed very stable to me, and comments from those behind echoed that thought. Thus far I am happy to have stayed SUA. Eventually the springs will be pulled apart, coated with slip plate, and new bushings installed. Even in current setup the springs were doing some work, but letting them slide and shackles move easier will help.

Have not decided on how the drop supports are going to work yet, as there are a few nice ideas I've seen which are also en process of thought.
