Another new guy...and the newbie questions?

Hello Jeep folks....

I followed Travis and a bunch of NAXJA folks here, and I really love some of the things I see here.

Now that I am finishing the build of Midwest trail runner Jeep. I'm looking for someway to rescue my 94 ZJ from ending its life as a beat down DD.

The expedition vehicle idea looks like it would be fun to build and something for my son and I to play with when its finished..

What would this band of experts consider the vital elements of a weekend expedition truck for very short range stuff. We live in the heart of 'no public wheeling land' country.

Sweet!

There are plenty of places around here to do some wheeling, it is just a lot harder to find them. Our fall colors run down in Shawnee was awesome, and sure to be repeated again even with Randy out west now. Silver Lake would be pretty cool too, not to mention the tons of places to go up north. Land between the lakes is definately on my list of trails to wheel soon too.

A ZJ would be a great platform, how big are you going to go with it? Like it is with cherokees, a small lift and 31" tires will get you through most of what you would encounter around here (without going out looking to get into trouble).

It is good to see you over here!

Its going to remain a DD for now, so its either 2" and 30's or 3" and 31's. I don't want to deal with some of the reliablity issues with going larger.. Also its most likely going to stay on AT's. I really liked the BFG's and Bridgestones I had in the past...

I like the full-time 4wd system for the winter, but I think I MAY swap that t-case out for a 231 just to have the bulletproof reliablity of it...

ZJs can make great off-road rigs. You should be able to get a lot of great help from this site. Later...Clint
