Another spring question..

I ordered LJ rear springs and ZJ v8 front springs from OME for my TJ because it was recommended at the time for the weight i had on them. I plan on reducing the weight of the jeep and im not sure which springs to make the switch to. Im thinking the AEV springs or another set of lighter OME..
I would rather not change out me shocks seeing they are new and they are OME..
If you have any suggestions feel free to toss them my way. 150 a pair new for OME and the AEV is 135 a pair.
Just want some more updates opinions and what not.
Thanks
Jake

Where are you finding AEV springs?

Edit: NVM, I found their on clearance, I went ahead and jumped and bought some LJ Rears and TJ fronts.

AEV springs are progressive and when grouped with good shocks, they yield a really nice ride, on road and off. I'm in the middle of redoing my suspension, Currie Short arms and Track Bar, AEV 3 inch Progressive Springs, and Bilstien 5100s...at least thats the plan right now.

?? Spring have more to do with ride height when empty/loaded than they do with ride... The V8ZJ/LJ spring combo shouldn't really have bumped you more than 1" or so... You're not going to see a lot of ride improvement by switching to other springs, and both AEV and OME springs are going to be taller than you're already at... ???
I'm missing the point, I'm sure... ??

I feel like i bought to hard of springs for my setup. For an analogy it feels like one ton springs in a tacoma.. am i wrong in assuming the harsh ride is from the coil being made for more weight than what's on it?

I have run the V8ZJ/LJ for four years now with Bilstein shocks and like the ride. My jeep is not heavily loaded, but does have an ARB bull bar and winch on the front and Garvin rear bumper/tire carrier. If you are running the new OME shocks, that could explain the harsh ride.

I gained about 2.5 inches of lift with those springs.

Aaah, that makes more sense. But as someone above pointed out, it's probably more the shocks than the springs. If you put dump truck springs in a 1/2 ton, it'll ride like a dump truck, but OME springs aren't that much stiffer than your stock springs, they're just wound taller. You're probably not getting ride harshness front the springs, but rather the "sweet" new valving in the OME shocks.

I don't know why they changed them, but they are no longer the great riding/handling shocks that they were. Bilsteins do great unless you run a lot of washboard, and then they can feel too stiff. You want a shock with digressive valving, so it gets softer as the shaft velocity increases... Most lift company shocks are the opposite, which is not so good. Old OME shocks were digressive. New ones are not. :(
I need new shocks too, and I now have no idea what to get. (I run a bit of washboard...)
