Any experience with Warn Zeon series?

My trusty Warn XD9000 needs a new motor, possibly a new solenoid, and I'd like to upgrade the severely faded synthetic line, and my fairlead has seen better days. I was just going to get a new XD9000 and change to synthetic line, but I see you can get a Warn Zeon series with synthetic for about $100 more. Am I missing something? Seem like a no brainer, but are these of less quality? They sure look nice.

I will likely keep my old winch, and repair what is needed to use for a trailer winch or for a future project. It is pretty crusty looking (MN salt).

Thanks,

Yes id sayso warn is a good brand no doubt but i think they are relying on name rocognition and noteal improvement therevwas a winch shoot outbin 2011 i am not aware of anybas comprehensive that are moe recent warn won that even though theur winch didnot finish !!? ! I think this was an example of name influence and advertising bucks to me that is bs i used to have all warn wiches and theybwere very good but this was 2o years ago alsoin the spirit of full disclosure i was treated very poorly bu their customer service folks when i had a problem with the powder coating on their bumper never had a problem like that with arb so whenit came time for me to spend my money on a new winch i went with the super winch 10k exp do your selfva favor check it out then decide if you are missing something oh and for all of the manufacturers out there remember customer service is king we work hard for our money we spend wisely and carefully so when your product fails step up and treat us right a lot of people read thes forums

Zeons are assembled here in the states, but could have Chinese parts. I have a zeon 12 that I bought with steel cable when it got kinked, I changed it out with A.R.E. synthetic cable. I do know that just the motor for the zeon to replace is around 300 bucks. You could buy the harbor freight for the same price when it craps out just go buy another one.

I could be wrong, but my understanding is the Zeon series is waterproof/dust proof for the motor and gears and control box and can worked while being surmised. My guess is since it's a sealed unit, maintenance can't be done easily.

I’ve had no problems with my Zeon. It’s been used from -25°******** to 90°F, been submersed, encased in ice from melting snow running off the hood/radiator/grille and refreezing and lots of extremely dusty dirt and gravel roads.

What's wrong with the motor?

The motors I know of, are similar to starters and rebuildable by electric shops. The relays are available anywhere.

Have punished mine for 4 years. Guess that comes with wheeling with 4runners, rovers . It's seen clay in the south, swampy muck up north, dust and rain and works every time. Guess i could have got a badland or what ever from trac supply or hf but I don't have the time to get winches warrantied every two or three months.

It hasn't been working for some time, and I assumed it was just the solenoids, since that seems common. It is mounted behind my AEV bumper, and once I got it half torn apart to access the winch, part of the motor cover fell off. Looks like it cracked somehow. It is mostly the cover for the motor, but I only seem to find the motor for sale with a cover. It is coming out tomorrow and am going to run through some tests to find out what all needs to be replaced. Thanks for all the replies. I may go with the zeon if the repairs are too much.

I still have the Warn XD9000i with STEEL cable mounted on my '98 TJ since 1999 and have had no issues other than the paint peeling off the solenoid housing and then oxidation.

If it were mine, I would save the money of purchasing a new one and just buy the replacement parts and rebuild your original. There are several in depth "how to" videos on YouTube to give you an idea on how complicated vs. simple....

Either way, good luck.
