I see snorkels on the streets and vehicles posted here, anyone have pics of their's fording a river, waterway, etc., where they need to be used?
Here is one from the net:

Forgot to add the "floating then sinking" comment in the first vid is quite amusing/disconcerting. Did it have to be recovered or did it make it through?

Not my vid, so sorry for the ones that do not like the music.

But at about 10 minutes in, me in my black YJ on bogger 35" full lock and 6" of lit.

Not above the hood but pretty close. POV is not good, but right at the end, theire is a deeper hole were water was almost over the tfront of the hood.

The other ones before me are my wheeling bodies from the RHEBELs in quebec city.
Hole is in Bethel Maine at the annual Maine Mountain Jamboree.

I will try to find a better vid.

From an other point of view, but unfortunatly from the rear.

So to me, a snorkle is not an unecessary modification. ;)

Because it's a disco and the rear door seal is good the back end started to float, then Keith thought water got in and sunk it enough for the rear to touch down again. But while it did float it didn't get any water in the back, it just got to the other side round the corner and I drove out. I had about 20mm in the foot wells and that was the end of my carpets :)
The water was about 1200mm deep, about 4 foot. You can see this by the way it goes over the number plate on the back door.
It is a deisel obviously so wading is fine, and I have lifted all the internal kick panel relays up under the dash so if it came to it it could fill with water internally up to the bottom of the centre console without damaging anything.

maybe not what you'd expect from this thread since it doesn't involve water, but many forget one of the better uses of a snorkel is to help with dust. I know that's the primary reason I have one.

Awesome pictures. I am considering adding the AEV snorkel and AEV heat reduction hood to my Jeep. I am curious though, what else do you guys do to your rigs to waterproof them and submerge them that deep? Shouldn't vehicle electronics be a concern? What else do I need to do? After the recent floods and state of emergency here in South Carolina, I had to make several water crossings with water about a quarter of the way up the doors. I took them very slow and steady to avoid sucking in water. id like to be a little more prepared now. Thanks in advance!

Extending the breather hoses on the JK is a must - Here's how I did it for less than $30 http://theroadchoseme.com/diy-jeep-wrangler-jk-breather-hose-extensions

When you install the snorkel, you should silicone up the breather holes in the bottom of the JK airbox too.

Other than that, there is not a lot you can do about the electronics, etc. It is what it is.

I always use dielectric grease on my electrical connections. It's not for waterproofing but it certainly helps. But some and just make it a habit of using it anytime you work on electrical.
