Sounds like you're looking for a 4 door. In that case, the 2nd gens (1992 - 1999?) are better. 1st gens (very boxy and square) are OK but only a LSD, no locker available. 3.0 motor has a tendency to have valve guide issues that will cause you to burn oil excessively (1 qt every 1,000 miles for me) but there's a pretty standard fix to it, cost of the fix is about $1200 (basically a top-end rebuild.)

By all means, avoid anything that's got the 4 cyl engine. But those were only sold in the US in the 2 door versions of the 1st gen Monty so as long as you aren't looking at a 2 door, you won't encounter the 4 cyl.
