Anyone hear of Bear Grylls clothing?

A catalog appeared in my mailbox the other day no doubt from online shopping elsewhere.
They have some pretty good pants and shirts for outdoor activities.

Most of the synthetic shirts/pants have sunblock factor of 40 built into them too.

looks like its pretty good stuff and its backed by a reputable company, Craghoppers. The last time I checked it though, they were sold out of everything I wanted. I tried calling during business hours and only received a recording.

In my catalog most of the stuff is marked way down.
I wonder if they are closing up shop.

I will have to look online later for the pants I eyed in the catalog.
Shirts I have to many from Deluth and other places, but I can always use pants for both work, home, and camping.

Well I took the plunge around Thanksgiving after I got another catalog in the mail, and placed an order November the 28th I think.
Just got two shirts yesterday since they ship from the UK and have to clear customs.

I called their 800 number the other day to find out where my shipment was, as you cannot track it since they use the Postal Service once it lands in the USA.
It was funny listening to the phone ring when I called them, just like the phone at the end of one of Pink Floyd's songs.
Lot different ring tone that here in the US.

Anyways, I ordered two of these in Black Pepper and Dark Khaki.

I am wearing the black one today at work, and I have to say it is very nice.
There is no insect protection in this shirt like my Rail Rider ones, but these do have 40 SPF built in to protect you from the sun.

I think these will do very well both for camping and at work when it is cool out.
Warmer months at work I am in T shirts.

If anyone has thought about these, you might give this shirt a try.
Only drawback is the wait for them to land in the USA.

The three reviews so far on their site are pretty positive.
I had to roll the sleeves up one turn, as they are a little long for me.
They also can be rolled up and held in place with snaps.

PS, yes, it does say Bear Gryll's on the front, but I do not care :)

Corey are these shirt snug/fitted? One thing I don't like about the ExOfficio shirts is they are pretty baggy.

They are kind of snug, but when you lift your arm straight up, the shirt does not pull upwards.
They seem to be pretty nice.
I ordered in my normal size too.

I'm not interested in his clothes as much as I am in his laundry detergent! :sombrero:

Looks like nice stuff - the logo thing turns me off though.

Cheers,

Craghoppers stuff in the UK tends to sell in the cheaper end of the market, they are constantly on sale in outdoor shops and reduced retailers. Their basecamp trousers can be picked up for around $20 to $30 a pair. Winter lined around $50 and a microfleece for $25. I use the a couple of pairs of their trousers for work and the microfleece for riding in. The winter lined ones are nice, used the mosi repellent ones in Africa recently.

Quality is ok, but nothing to write home about. For the money you guys are paying there must be something better in the US. The BG range seems a bit better but the price increase I cannot justify. Again there is better stuff for the money.

As soon as I saw this thread I was going to say what Jonathan said regarding his knives. Something I once heard though that I still find true/hilarious to this day is "watching Bear Grylls for survival advice is like learning to drive by watching the fast and the furious."

I hope the clothing is better quality than the cheap knives Gerber is flogging with his name on them.
Actually I have this knife from BG, and it is very high quality despite being made in China.

I carry it at work an use it daily cutting strapping and huge zipties that holds Boeing aircraft tubing that came in from shipping stringer dollies, as well as cutting other stuff at work.
It has not let me down yet, and it gets a good workout daily at work.
A driver at work liked mine so well he just got the same one from Cabela's.

The blade is heavier than the handle, and it makes for flipping open the knife very easy.

Corey, I'm glad you're happy with it. I was utterly underwhelmed with the one I tried, even for the price. But I've already hijacked your thread - not intentionally!
