Anyone know who's Troopy this is? I saw it this weekend.

Date: May 30, 2008
Location: 4 Wheel Parts Redondo Beach, CA
Chassis: Toyota LC Troop Carrier
Comments: I was picking up a Ducati Monster 696 from Del Amo Motorsports with a friend and spotted this gem in the parking lot in front of 4 Wheel Parts. It is a RHD which had some sort of pop-top roof and Michigan transporter plates.

How about this FJC? I saw it too.

Date: June 1, 2008
Location: Southbound 14 Freeway at the Sand Canyon exit.
Chassis: Toyota FJ Cruiser
Comments: Nice loaded rig with a full compliment of accessories.

How about this one?

Date: May 31, 2008
Location: Intersection of Manhattan Beach Blvd. and Aviation Blvd., Redondo Beach, CA
Chassis: Toyota FJ Cruiser
Comments: Coachbuilt soft top convertible. It had temp paper plates on it and not really an expedition vehicle but I still thought it was interesting.

I'm diggin' the pizza cutters on the Troopy.

I don't know whose vehicles those are obviously but I appreciate the eye candy. Nice finds -

Quite the spy photographer you are!!

You don't even know. Since I live in the desert near the Honda and Hyundai track I see a lot of stuff well before it comes out. A lot of hot weather test cars from all manufacturers come through my neck of the woods.

Beat me to it. There is a Mike's in Kettleman City too.

There is money in taking pics of the test cars. If you frequently are in the area where they're being driven (like CA City's Hondai facility) and can take pics, the various mags out there will pay for good pictures. A friend of mine is hooked up with a photog who specializes in this.

Yeah I've seen a lot of cool test mules. Some heavily disguised like the M and the (then) unreleased Caddy CTS-V to the thinly disguised M5, Honda Jazz (Fit), and S2000. I did try sending the M3 photos in to Autoweek but they published photos taken from a regular contributing photog (I forget her name) who is on the books a few months later. Typically I snap what I can and archive them for myself.

That is very likely the gal that my friend is connected with. He sends the pics to her and she sells them. Then he gets paid some percentage of the sale price. Not bad for just being in the right place at the right time.

The 14 is a great spot in the summer.... BMW seems to like it allot. I've saw a bunch of 1 series cars, Mini's, and even an X6. I also passed a caravan of Porches last coming down the 395. I guess the latest Turbo was in there somewhere. I also saw several M3's in LA.

If only I had known! My dad lives near there and bought his Multistrada and 999R Replica there but that was the last bike he got from them. The Monster belongs to a friend and yes (I think) he got the proper boning. Del Amo has always been steep but he had waited for the bike since November and couldn't bear to wait any longer.

Interesting Troopy. It was a bit more rough before the respray. Vintage Offroad brought that one in....hence the Michigan plates...

I looked at that one because it had a poptop conversion....very sweet...but not parting it out....
