Anyone running E rated tires on a first gen Tacoma?

I'm looking for some all terrain tires and was thinking of going with BFG's AT/KO2's. I had the regular AT/KO's on a Wrangler and was pretty impressed with them.

I'm confused by the E rating though. I understand that the higher rating will ride rougher (not a big concern) and require a higher tire pressure - but I'm not sure how much to inflate them for a relatively light-weight Tacoma.

Anyone have any recommendations based on their experiences?

Ran some on my 02 tacoma for a while. They were slightly oversized and heavy, but rolled just fine. my MPGs did take a hit. With the V6 I was hitting 17 on the highway

Dang. I'm getting about 21 on the highway, I'd hate to drop into the teens. May have to reevaluate my tire choice in that case...

I lost 2 mpg average going from the stock 265/65/17 Dunlop AT 2.0 to an E rated 265/70/17 KO2. The ride is substantially rougher (which I like) and it made a little difference in acceleration. I like the little bit more puncture resistance the e rated tires give so that's why I went with them. Idk if I would on a first gen though, it def zapped my acceleration a little, and the second gen has a good bit more power than a first.

Edit: I have a second gen but just wanted to give you a good reference point. I have the six spd manual too.

I've got 235x85R16's E rated General Grabber AT2s on both of my Tacoma's ('02 XtraCab, 15 DCSB). I like 'em. You'll have to play around with what pressure works for you. I typically run a little less than 40 psi on the road, 20 off. It is a stiffer ride but not enough that I think it's bothersome.

I ran 235/85-16's on my 04 double cab, they were fine. The yokohama's were quite a bit heavier than the stock OE tire, so I notice it in ride as well as mileage. cost me about 1.5 mpgs as I recall (I logged all gas tanks on the truck).

I think the right "e" may be fine, but some are very heavy.

I ran 285 BFG Mud's on my 01 Taco and it was fine. They gripped and flexed great when aired down, and rode nice down the road. Couldn't tell ya what kind of mileage hit I took cause the truck always had heavy tires on it, and the truck itself was a pig. I'm running the same size, E rated A/T's on my Runner and think they are fine too.
