Anyone using a Metz 2m antenna?

Since I drive an aluminum-bodied truck, I need to mount a 2-meter antenna on a side rail of my roof rack, where the ground plane would be lousy. I'm looking at a Metz 2m antenna (p/n 214) to overcome this issue. Anyone use a Metz antenna? Looking for any input one way or the other. I'm not too thrilled with the price of this antenna, even at the Ham Radio Outlet ($69.95) but may be willing to bite the bullet if it is as good as I hear it is supposed to be...

Oh...and I'll be using it with a single-band Yaesu FT-2900R.

Thanks,

I think you putting to much thought into the ground plane piece. Put a mount on the rail, run a short wire from the mount to a near by bolt holding the rail to the body and then put a good antenna on it. Ill take a 5/8 larson with a marginal GP over the metz. The metz is just using the coax for the ground plane. Its not a magic antenna.

just use the rack as you groud plane. i have a comet 2mtr antenna mounted on my roof of my house to a 12x12 peice of sheetmetal and i have no problems. i have also used the same setup on the boat and toyhauler and the transmit is great and recive is great also.

Im planning on taking off my (failed experimental) GPS helix antenna and putting a 2 meter antenna on the repositionable antenna mount pictured below. My first instinct was to go with a 5/8 wave Hustler SF-2, but then I started becoming concerned about inadequate ground plane and looked at the pricey Metz setup.

mount a nmo mount on that and your golden. 2mter is not that ground plain dependent wait till you go hf on your truck then you really need to worry about the ground plain

metz antenna

The metz ant is a very good (no ground plane) ant. I had one mounted on the window post of my jeep wrangler(sold the jeep kept the ant). worked very well, no problems.
Got three of them scattered about.

no ground plane needed with 5/8 antenna's. If you go with 1/4 wave, then yes, you need a ground plane.
