We're planning our first day trip for the 7th of April to Medano Pass & The Great Sand Dunes, north of Alamosa, CO. To find out full details for the trip, fillout the contact form at http://www.15ers4x4.com/contact-us/view.html, or send me a PM on this forum.

At the 15ers, we're all about the beautiful scenery Colorado has to offer. Our goal is to find Colorado's most scenic off road trails. We're more about the destination, not just the trail taking us there. Visit http://www.15ers4x4.com for details.

Also look for details on the upcoming Pass Bagger program. How many high mountain passes have 4wheeled over?

Are you running Medano Pass starting from highway 69 or starting at the dunes? How's the pass look? Seems a bit early, the pass may still be snowed in and the road may still be closed on the park side. But then again, it has been warm and I don't think the snow pack in the Sangres is very good this year. Anyway, in any case, be very careful on your Medano Creek crossings, during melt off it can be /really/ deep. We did Medano one May about 8 years ago now, some of the crossings were 2 and 3 feet deep. I couldn't walk across them to get a good measure (fast and cold!). I made it just barely with my FJ40, which was lifted and had a higher-than-stock air filter (I ran a Holley carb).

Yeah, the Sangre de Cristos in April? :yikes: I was riding my motorcycle out by Canon City yesterday and what I could see of the Sangres looked pretty snowy! I was figuring on running Medano some time in late June or even July!

Out of curiosity, what's the earliest people have run Medano?

That trip in May, which was the weekend after Memorial Day IIRC. The pass was clear enough to drive through. I think that was 2000.

Pretty cool website and interesting info on how y'all chose the name '15ers'. Medano Pass and Great Sand Dunes are absolutely stunning! I was there last September for a trip that our magazine did a write-up on and it was absolutely awesome. Have fun out there, and at this time of year, be prepared not just for the terrain but also the weather.

Hmm...looks like we better have a backup plan huh? I've got some contact numbers to see if it's open or not. I'll def. come up with an alternative though.

Thanks for the input!
