I recently installed this new kit from JeepKarma to outfit my JK with pressurized running water. Water is stored in the factory rear bumper, which holds about 7 gallons. Installation was easy and only took a few hours. I've wanted to do this mod for a few years now, but never got around to sourcing all the pieces for it. This kit made it simple and was priced very competitively compared to buying all the parts separately.
I replaced my factory bumper with a newer one in better condition at the same time, so I installed the kit with the bumper off of the Jeep. You don't have to remove it, but its only 6 bolts and I think it made the job a bit easier.
Here is the bumper after I made the holes and ran the water lines.
One line is the feed line (with a screen over the end) which will go to the pump, and the other line runs from the pump back into the bumper and attaches to the fitting for the hose attachment. Very clever.
Here are the hoses from the bumper run up into the taillight cavity where the pump will go.
Here is the bumper back on the Jeep. I'm not super excited by how much the fitting sticks out. I'm currently looking for something that will work as a cover to keep debris out of it. I'm using an Oakley lens bag right now, but would like some sort of rubber cap in the future.
The wiring is fairly simple and the kit includes a toggle switch to kill power to the pump. The pump is designed to only come on when you depress the trigger on the nozzle.
All in all this is a pretty good kit at a reasonable price. John, the owner of JeepKarma is really cool, and will go out of his way to help you if you have any trouble at all.
If you are looking for a good way to bring water with you on the trail at an affordable price, this is it. This whole kit costs less than a couple of Rotopax carriers and gives you more volume.
Note: This water is not meant for drinking, but can be used to wash your hands, clean gear, do dishes, etc. If you are dying in the desert please drink the water!
