ARB Frige and Wiring

Was not sure to put this in the Jeep section or another, so here it goes. Please feel free to move if needed.

I am considering an ARB fridge for my 2014 JKU for my cross country trips. I am considering wiring this to one of my empty ports on my SPOD as it has built in low voltage cut off. I know the power point adapter that comes with the jeep is not enough to power the fridge. If I decide to power off the SPOD, do you think I would be better off running new wire for a power point or running to an inverter? I am leaning towards DC. Any suggestion on type or wire and power point or any reason not to run off of the SPOD?

Not sure what the "power point adapter" on your jeep is, but as long as you have at least 10-gauge wire all the way from the fridge to the battery you will be fine. Using an inverter does not make much sense to me.

The ARB has a low voltage circuit built into it. if you do go thru the SPOD you may well have problems. It's best to run a new dedicated #10 circuit back to where you want the unit. ARB sells such a wire loom already made up with inline fuse and it's well worth the bucks. Just make sure you get the new style connectors on Fridge and wire loom, The old Hella style plugs always seem to vibrate loose on the trail. Some have said they use the 12v plug in the back of the JKU with no problems while others have had issues hence my recommendation to install new circuit.

I'd just keep it simple and wire the fridge straight to the battery via the ARB or similar wiring loom. Running the fridge off the inverter seems a little redundant, 12v up to 110v and then the fridge converts it back down to 12V. I added another socket into my sub-woofer box that uses the ARB fridge wiring loom.

My setup consists of a mostly stock 2013 JKU, an ARB 50 and an ArkPak battery box. On road/camping trips, I run the fridge off the OEM rear power port of the JKU when driving, then unplug from the jeep and switch to the 12V outlet of the ArkPak when parked for extended periods of time. It may not be the best from an efficiency perspective, but my experience is that the JKU's rear port does reliably run my ARB fridge. Perhaps over time this may change. Anyway, just replying to give you another data point.
