Are my front springs Shot(91 dodge diesel)

My 91 w350 diesel only has about 1 1/2 inches between the spring and the bumpers on the frame, and the bumpers are getting beat up.
Does anyone know how much space there should be in there? The suspension is stock. Thanks for any replies.

My 2.5 in lift springs give about 4-5 inches of travel so I would say you aren't too far off.

When my front springs were worn out I had no travel whatsoever.

Before I lifted mine I only had about a half inch of space between the bumps and the spring.

I currently have 4 1/2 inches of space between the spring and bump.

Yep that sounds about normal for these trucks. My 1/2 ton was the same way stock. It hit the bumpstops all the time on rough surfaces.

Thank you guys for the info. This is the first of these trucks I have owned. I would like a little more travel. I think a 2 or 2.5 inch lift is in order. Any suggestions?

Consider just leveling the front. The rear has gobs of clearance for big tires, but the front is where the limitations are. The 2.5" front lift springs from Skyjacker are popular, or, if you're feeling rich, Alcan can make you a custom set of spring packs that will make the truck ride a thousand times better.

EDIT: And post some pictures, damn it :D

Well nothing beats measurements so I dug up some old pictures of my 2.5 skyjacker lift springs when they were about 1 month old. The springs haven't settled any more, at least not any amount that I have noticed. All measurements are one inch burned. So all measurements should have one inch subtracted to get the actual amount.

Just for comparison here is one picture of my old worn out stock springs before replacement.

Istzephyr thanks for the pics. my spring are just like your old ones, did you have to alter the steering when you lifted it?
