Today we went to Mormon Crossing. It is one of the few places where you can cross Chevelon Canyon. It is about 20 miles north of Heber and 35 miles south of Winslow on FR 504. There is a nice camping area located down in the canyon near the creek, out houses, fire rings, but no running water. We then traveled north-west to Chevelon Butte, the map shows FR 23 going to a lookout tower on top of the butte but FR 23 was closed at the junction with FR 63. Earlier in the day we tried to take FR 169B east to Chevelon Canyon Lake but it was closed about two miles east of FR 169. All and all it was another great day in Arizona. I was talking with my wife as we were on one of the forrest roads and I said "you know most people plan and wait all year to come out west and explore for a few days. We get to do it every weekend!" You know, Life really is good!!! Here are a few pics of today.

Nice pics man. I'm headed up to Chevelon Canyon next weekend. What was the weather like?

Fantastic! mid-day 75-77 and sunshine, sundown was 68. Are you coming up to do the Canyon Diablo run with Crawler on Sat.? One road you should try to travel on is FR 100, it runs between FR 34 and FR 169. It intersects with FR 34 at approximately 34 28'00" and heads east from there over to FR 169.

Chuck! What a great photo! I can hear the rumble.

You're sporting one of the only (THE only?) Dodges I've seen here, too.

Thanks Mark but I have to pass the credit along to my wife, she shot the pic. She was reluctant to do it but,,,she did it!! She was affraid I would cover her with dust when I drove past but, I explained that the wind was behind her. She still got it a little though. OOOOPS!!:smilies27

I'm not going to be able to make it. Unfortunately, I'll be in Moab. :p
But you're in good hands. If you're into AZ history and such, Mark is your man.
