Last week we made a small outing to Asheville. Beth had continuing ed to go to so we rented a cabin and all of us tagged along. While she was in class the kids and I spent time on the BRP and in Pisgah Forest.

1. Pisgah from the BRP

(at least I think that's it!)
2. View from the top to the parking area, the black speck is the Tundra.

3. The view after the cloud rolled on top of the mountain.

Drove the BRP from Asheville to 276. Spent some time at the fish hatchery not far from Lookin Glass, did a bit of forest road time-nothing dramatic. One afternoon at the arboretum, and a corn maze, an evening downtown at the Grove Arcade and other shops.

Beth and I both agreed the Biltmore House doesn't really trip our triggers, but if we get down there feeling flush we'd like to take the Land Rover Driving School.:safari-rig:

My hometown!!!!!!!!!!! Lived there from 12-24, my parents still live west of there, in Candler. GPI is cool, I used to work there @ my dad is the food & beverage director. The Spa is awesome! Biltmore is cool also, I've only been there once. The grounds alone are pretty amazing. Think, they used to own all of the land all the way to Mt Pisgah!! They had a big hunting cabin near Pisgah that burned down in the 60's. This is a great time of year to be there, my bro just got back a few days ago.

Wow Jim.....:(

As much as I appreciate you sharing pics of my old stomping grounds (I waited tables in college at the Pisgah Inn on the BRP), I'm bummed to miss out on yet another Smoky Mountain autumn.

It was especially depressing to miss out on the Wooly Worm Festival in Banner Elk last weekend too. Fall in NC is my favorite time of year. Thanks for letting me see Looking Glass Falls again.

Awesome pics! That is a beautiful area. We like to get up that way a couple of times a year. We look for property everytime we go. Haven't found anything yet, who knows, maybe next time.

Next time you're in the area, I also recommend the Cherohala Skyway. It runs from Robinsville, NC to Tellico Plains, TN. We went in Feb and saw maybe 6 cars all day.

The cabin we rented was just outside of Candler; Mountain View Cabins...

Cool, will have to check that out, along with any dispersed camping info I can find.

Nice pics Jim! The Asheville area is awesome. My grandparents are from Asheville, and my dad grew up on Lake Junaluska...his grandma was a member of the religious community there and had a place on the lake that's now a vacation rental :p. Tsali is a great place too, for biking and hiking.

Depending on your vacation goals, you could end up taking any number of paths while you're here. Perhaps you've a taste for the wilderness, in which case you won't miss the magnificent beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains and all the nooks and crannies this gentle range will capture your imagination with.
