PC World Magazine compared AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon performance for data upload and download in 13 cities across USA. Conclusion: AT&T had the best average scores.

This is an impressive improvement for AT&T, which scored poorly in last year's test. Sprint performed about the same as last year, and Verizon's speed was down some 8 percent. This was the first year T-Mobile was included in the test.

These results are an average of test results in 13 cities. Your local results may be different.

Not too bad.....AT&T has been spending millions in my market improving and expanding their network. Unfortunately they are still behind by about 3 years. Sprint already has a working 4g network in some cities and is working in my market as we speak. Verizon's LTE (4g) is already complete in most cities and is ready to be brought on air. They are starting the build here in my market and my company will be building the first 15 sites. Sprints 4g will be minuet compared to Verizon's 4g. They plan on out fitting 90% of their network for LTE. I've heard different numbers but a typical 4g network is capable of 50+mbps speeds.

edited to correct the speeds (talked to local tech)

AT&T may have the fastest network but their 3G coverage is horrible. Up until 2009 my local AT&T store didn't have 3G coverage inside the store, they regularly walked customers out into the parking lot to demo the 3G network abilites.

Verizon customer here with a Droid. :)

I could tell from the nervous commercials by Verizon. It has turned into a battle between them.

Although coverage could be better (which they are working on) the iPhone far surpasses any phone on the market. Since they will not be going to Verizon any time soon, AT&T will remain on top.

rumors are that Apple has developed an Iphone for the 4g network.....they can't be sticking with AT&T much longer if that is the case.

Verizon doesn't have the same technology to work with an iPhone. They would have to redesign their entire system for it to work. Since Verizon is the only company large enough to compete with the exclusive contract, Apple won't be leaving AT&T any time soon. At least not within the next year. Perhaps a few years down the road. I believe they already signed next years contract for exclusivity.

Wrong...sorta. Apple doesn't want to build the Iphone to work with Verizon's technology. Verizon is CDMA based, as well as Sprint. AT&T and T-Mobile use GSM for the 2g(voice) and UMTS for their 3g(data). Apple doesn't want to convert to CDMA since it would hinder the I-phone's speed and functionality. GSM and UMTS work on two different landlines (T-1's), so the phone can access the 3g network independently from the voice. CDMA can't do that, its main draw back.

As far as Apple's contract.....you may be right. I'm not high enough in the wireless food chain to have that info, but I sure haven't read about it yet.

You can look at it glass half-full or half-empty. They are still not compatible. :ylsmoke:

Sprint's 4G is an aggreement with CLEAR Wireless to get the "4G" only a few phones and air cards can access thhe 4G network. I wouldn't exactly call it "TRUE" 4G. Just my 2 cents

Yeah I have spoken with a few Sprint higher ups and they know its a joke. The speeds will be nice but what does that matter when you really can't move very far with out loosing the service. Clearwire doesn't exactly have the best network.

I have to disagree here. The iPhone will never be a superior device until Apple releases the stranglehold on their App Store and allows Flash support.

I prefer my Droid over an iPhone in every way since it's open source and I can do with it what I please! ;)
