Att sat phone

I'm looking forward to testing this out. I ditched my Spot in favor of waiting for something like this. In an emergency, nothing beats having voice communication instead of a "Help Me" button.

My main concerns is the phone runs Windows Mobile 6.5 which from my experience has a difficult unser-interface and is slow. Also, the satellite coverage is limited since AT&T is using TerreStar's network

Also below are quote from other articles on the service. But for an additional $25/mth, I'd go for it! There's supposed to be a consumer version coming out later so hopefully the $799 handset price will drop.

"There are a few issues, however, worth noting. Coverage is available only in the U.S., Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and territorial waters. The phone requires a clear line of sight to the satellite in the southern skies, so you can't be surrounded by trees or other tall obstructions."

"The price tag? Customers will pay $799 upfront for the phone itself. An AT&T cellular voice and data plan are required as is a monthly satellite subscription, which costs $25. But calls, data, and messages through the satellite service are charged individually, with subscribers paying 65 cents per minute for voice, 40 cents per message, and $5 per megabyte of data."

Should I short GlobalStar (Spot) ??
Interesting question. I don't know how it will affect GSAT/GlobalStar.

I bought GSAT on a whim at ~$.40. It's been a good stock for me but I'm not sure which way it will go from here.
