Aussies overlanding Africa

Hi all

I'm new here, although I've had a good lurk around the site quite a few times in the last couple of years while we've been getting ready for our big trip.

This Sunday we (2 Aussies) are setting out in our Landcruiser from Cape Town and hearing north bound for... somewhere; probably London. We expect to take 6-8 months or thereabouts.

Anyway, you can check out what we're doing and where we're up to here: www.findingemo.org

You two blokes have a good sense of humor. :) You'll need that as much as your spares. Keep the faith and travel safe!

I look forward to updates.:coffeedrink:

Enjoy the trip!

Are-you taking the East or West Coast route?

East!

The rough plan is:
North from Cape Town
Namibia
Botswana
Zambia
Malawi
Mozambique
Tanzania
Burundi
Rwanda
Uganda
Kenya
Ethiopia
Sudan
Egypt
Then either turn left and head through Libya to Tunisia, or turn right and have a mosey around in the middle east.

Does anyone have a reliable perspective on the safety of overlanding in Zimbabwe at the moment? I'm not particularly up to date with what is happening...

Kaokoland here we come!

Hi all

We've been on the ground about a month now, and are in Swakopmund on the west coast of Namibia. Went quad biking in the Namib dunes this morning which was just awesome fun.

There are updates about what we've been up to, and photos, on the website at www.findingemo.org

From here, we are heading north and getting seriously remote up in Kaokoland in northwestern Namibia.

Thanks for all the interest.

Steve and Mark

PS of course they should take dropbears seriuosly. They are a serious threat, and visitors to Australia need to be properly educated about these menacing creatures.

Hey Steve and Mark.

Keep your eye out for Robert and Clary. He rang up last Friday and I think they might be in Namibia right about now too. Dutch couple been living in Oz for the last 30 years. Mainly Cairns. Website is www.doubledutchworldsafari.com . Traveling in a Fuso Canter we set up for them to do a Round the World trip and hoping to be in Europe this Xmas. Can't miss it. Has a roo in clogs on the side of the truck.

Good Luck Guys
John.

We met them a couple of times! First in Uganda, on beautiful Lake Bunyoni. We headed East towards Kampala, they continued on into Rwanda (where they narrowly avoided a recent flare up of ethnic tensions that ended in bloodshed, I believe). Then again at the perpetual overlanders haunt, Jungle Junction.

I wouldn't be surprised if we find them again in Ethiopia or Sudan, although I believe they are now planning to ship to Saudi Arabia from Port Sudan...
