Austin's 2008 4runner - commuter/weekend warrior

A couple months ago we got my wife a corolla (and traded in my bike) so our 4runner officially became mine to tinker with since my wife would no longer be driving it. it's a 2008 Sr5 4runner, multi mode 4x4 with the center locker. I've recently discovered overlanding, and i'm slowly building my rig up.

I commute in my runner, so I think i'm mostly done with the lift, tires, and drive train upgrades (for now), but I'm looking to further build out it's long haul mixed use abilities. We spend a decent amount of time driving out to Utah, and very often find ourselves doing 1000 miles in a weekend, with 40-100 of those miles off road. I like the idea of the drawers for supplies, and I'm thinking about the hitch gate carrier for canteens and other stuff for the really long hauls. I've done all the work myself and sourced as many things from the web/craigslist as possible which has saved me a boat load of $$

updates to-date:

plasti-dipped rims, starting to look a little ratty though

yakima Load Warrior - thinking about getting a flat rack instead for clearance

CB radio (Cobra 75WXST) box mounted under the passenger seat - magnetic antenna on the roof (with the cabling run under the trim)

bilstein 5100's front and rear (fronts set to 2.5")

daystar 1.5" rear spacer

FJ springs all around

rebooted CV axles (lesson learned about being nice to your axles when swapping the suspension out)

BFG A/T KO2's 265/70/17's - +1 size over stock

With everything installed I get a little rub in reverse at full lock, and i'm pushing about 6'10" with the Load Warrior, which is starting to frequently disqualify me from parking garages here in L.A. The ride is considerably better on the street, and now that I've just finished the axle reboot i'm looking to get it out in the dirt as soon as the wife will let me.

Thanks, I was pleasantly surprised when I picked up the tires. They were more aggressive than the picture in my mind. And they really filled it out more than I thought too, for only being marginally bigger than stock.

That's about what I'm wanting to build. Nothing too serious, but enough for fun weekends out in the country.
Did the 265/70/17's fit ok at stock height?

Yeah, I wanted something with just a little more clearance and better dampening for long stretches of washboards when fully loaded.

I got the 265/70/17s after the lift, so I'm not sure if they would have fit before. My original plan was to get 255/70s or 75s, but 4WP had such a good deal on these BFGs that I couldn't resist. they were something like 180/tire with tax, shipped. then they suckered me into the lifetime warranty for 75$ and then it cost about 80 to get them installed, so all in about 220/tire installed. I do get a little rub even with the lift when at full lock in reverse FYI. I want to say that i read that guys were running them stock over at T4R.org, but don't quote me.
