I missed having an auto dimming rear view mirror and the ability to operate garage doors/ gates. I got fed up with the glare of traffic behind me and having to look for my gate remote every day as I have to move it between cars. In addition, the previous owner somehow cracked the old mirror in half so I saw double whenever I looked behind me. I thought I could just find parts from another Montero and swap out my mirror for a better one but it looks like Montero's didn't even have those features available. I couldn't find any info on upgrading my rearview mirror other than buying new Gentex unit and face the possibility of having to glue a new mount to the windshield. I removed the old mirror to take a look at the mount and found it was a wedge mount. Other makers use wedge mounts in their cars but there was nothing that said wedge mounts were universal- the same dimensions in every way. I took a chance and bought a used auto dimming rear view mirror with Homelink pulled from a GMC Sierra off Ebay. I paid about $25 and they even included the wedge mount with a little chunk of windshield from the donor truck. When I tested the mirror mounting I found that it fit PERFECTLY! No wiggle or play at all with the Mitsubishi mount. I just tightened a little Allen screw to lock it in place and that was it. For power I tapped in to the light above and now I have an auto dimming mirror and garage remote. The version I bought has a manual on/off button to activate the dimming feature. When I wired it, I found that I wired it to constant power so if I forget to turn off the mirror it will still be on the next morning. I imagine the power draw is very low so I am not worried about leaving it on for a day or two. I hope this helps someone who wants a better mirror.
