Auto Transmission Temperature Monitor for 2013 JKU

I'd appreciate the wisdom of EXPO Jeep forum members: In your experience, what is the most effective way to monitor the auto transmission fluid temperature in a 2013 JKU? I will be driving in rutted sand tracks, often towing a (too-heavy) trailer......thus monitoring the transmission temperature is essential.

It looks like there may be all sorts of OBDII-based solutions, from Aeroforce to Amazon bluetooth OBDII dongles with smart phones.......but I can't find one that 100% says transmission temperature will be monitored for the 2013 JKU. Other measurements/functions are not important, nor is penny-pinching. I'd just like to know a monitoring solution based on EXPO member experience that I can take to the bank.

I have seen a few 2012s with the obd2 guage reading transmission temp. I think Rynomar on here and the AEV forum has something installed in his SPOD thingy above the rear view mirror.

I use the ELM 327 OBD2 Bluetooth Scanner paired with the Torque Pro App.

It has worked on every vehicle Ive ever used it on to read pretty much everything. Dont see why it wouldnt on the '13. I specifically purchased it for monitoring Trans temps. You can load different maps as needed and its easy to setup different profiles for any vehicle you swap it in to. It will obviously pull all codes and if it doesnt know what the code is it can automatically go online from your phone and provide more info and details.

All combined I think I spent $19 bucks between the reader and the app and its been the best $20 Ive ever thrown down related to my vehicles.

I have the Torque app and will be testing this in the next 2 weeks when my 2013 JK arrives. It works great on my 2010 but computer wise the 2013 is a different animal and I have not found any definitive answers that it will work for trans temp on the 2013. I'll post my results when I have it. Considering the post 2010 JK's come with trans coolers standard now, it's most likely less of an issue than it was previously. Still, I like knowing what is going on with my JK and the Torque app has been great for that so far.

Can't say enough good things about this setup. I use it with a small Android tablet that I also use for navigation and vehicle reference.

When I used to ride a harley I wanted to know the oil temperature real bad my mechanic told me that unless I was prepared to somehow decrease the oil temp I should not invest in a temp gauge. I put an aftermarket trans cooler on my 2010 jku that pulls an adventure trailer and forgot about it.
