aviation GPS as offroad GPS is it possible?

so I fell into an older aviation "handheld" Garmin GPSMap295. I am trying to figure out how everything works on it as there is a ton of info on it. I know it used to sell for a pretty penny and since I got it for free..., and no it was not a five finger discount lol
Is there any ways to set this up for off road still or is it a dinosaur? info would be great thanks.

Thats still a nice unit for pilots...thought about selling it on ebay and buying something more suitable? Theyr'e from $200-400 right now.

Yeah I checked ebay and may go that route. I seen 2 going for 250+. That would get my foot in the door for a decent outdoor gps. I just had hoped since I had this already that it could be programed to suit.
