define stealth in a liveried ambulance? :D

Seriously, if this had shown up last month, before I bought my Tiger, I probably would have gone for it. Especially since it's for sale locally with what I assume would be valid (non-op)CA registration. One consideration I had with out of state diesel ambulances was the difficulty and cost of bringing them into CA.

I've not heard great things about those old non-Turbo 7.3's but love the idea that it's in the F350 chassis.. Parts galore and cheap!

I guess you mean that the old 7.3 IDI is SLOW and NOISY....however, I'd hope you'ld agree that they are also bulletproof...no?

Yes, low on power is what i was referring to. I had a 99 F350 with the turbo 7.3 which i liked.. definitely much more noise compared to late model stuff but that didn't bother me.

Peace...I was wondering whether an aftermarket turbo wouldnt cost an arm and leg. I understand the Westcott's (of TURTLE fame: http://turtleexpedition.com) added a Banks turbo to this base vehicle. At $5900 and lo miles there would be alot of budget room for improvements. It does show pretty nicely in the pics. I'm tempted; but we do alot of mountain driving and I'd be afraid to become a rolling roadblock with this in its stock form.

As the owner of a fleet of ambulances for the past 20 years, I can say that the Type I (truck chassis) would be my absolute last choice if I were looking at buying one for personal use. Yes, they're easier to work on, but that is far outweighed by how damned uncomfortable they are. They drive like pigs and getting a proper suspension setup in one is very difficult. Besides the wimpy power of that NA 7.3, a huge concern would be the E40D transmission that it has...a bona fide piece of crap if ever there was one.

Used ambulances are a dime a dozen and it's very easy to find rigs far, far nicer than that one.
