Axle/spring/shock geometry

I plan on starting my first expedition trailer this spring. I've got a source for 3" heavy square tubing for cheap as well as a lot of other steel I've been collecting. I'd really like to do this right the first time.....unlike many of my other endeavors.

I don't fear the fabrication part of it at all but my real question here is; Is there a book or something I can source to help me with the axle? I have no idea how to place perches and shackles properly or where and what angle to lay out a pair of shock absorbers.

I've read a lot of threads here and have a lot left to read before I make the first pencil drawing but mine won't be overly elaborate. Single axle level with my [stock] FJ. I'd like to use a pintle and get a decent amount of suspension travel on par with what a stock FJ can do. I don't plan on getting into any real hairy places but I'd like to know what I build will go anywhere me and my FJ can. I've found a place locally to get hubs that'll match the 6 lug of my FJ so spares will be universal.

No need for long replies [unless you have the time, then I do appreciate that!!!] just a finger pointed in the general direction.

Thanks everyone!

Ok rule of thumb on leaf springs is to solid mount the front hanger and the rear shackle the bolt in the shackle will be 1/2-3-4" behind the mount bolt on the frame.

Shock mounting angle can be debated. Just make sure you get the proper length shocks for full compression and droop.
