Nice documentary, if I might say. Wish I could see the pics, though. Consider this: if there is a nearby gang-infested neighborhood, there are probably violent crimes 10% of the time (3 nights in a month which is actually probably conservative compared to here in SF Bay Area), whereas your neighborhood might have violent crime 0.5% of the time. So, to be fair, maybe you should spend a month or two on the AZ/Mex border to really get a feel for things WRT drug gang activity.
