Baja scout trip

actually the scout trip turned into a heavy duty adventure
plan was to prepare for an upcoming "first time ever" event
200 miles of uncharted (never driven before) Baja California territory
instead, we managed to put all the pieces of the puzzle together in only 2 days
we got lucky I guess - if you don't count the endless nights with Google Earth

got seriously lost one day a long existing track had simply disappeared - took some creative thinking to find the way back to civilization

250 miles with one filling of gas (I had 2 liters left when I got gas - 94 liters)
never felt so safe with any 4x4 (G500) traveling so far away from any resources

what do you think this big thing next to the car could be?

Homesick for Baja

Thanks for sharing this great compilation of photos. All these empty beaches - so beautiful! You mentioning that Baja is changing rapidly, with many new ranchos popping up and land get fenced in, makes me want to go there soon again. Having had bad experiences during our last two trips and the drug war in the north of Baja, I have to think twice travelling with my teenage daughter.

Your pictures and photo captions really capture the essence of Baja.
Great photography. :)

we will do this trip into uncharted territory with a handfull of brave explorers about the first week of April 2011
will announce it shortly in the appropriate section
not only will it be the first time ever - it might be the last time as well, as locked gates will keep people out (gates used to be open, since you have to drive through several ranchos to get to yours)
