Bar Al Hikman trip - Oman

Summer here has just ended and the temperatures have become more camping suitable along the coast.

This trip was to somewhere new to us recommended by friends as child safe as the coast line of Oman is usually steep sandy beaches and large waves.

Barr al Hikman is a flat peninsular made up of rock reef's and salt flats as far as the eye can see.

There is no road- GPS co-ordinates swapped in a bar and fellow travelers tire marks..

Only issue is not all the tracks lead the way you thought they do.......as most are left by the bedu trying to find their camels and meeting fishing boats on remote sheltered points

leading to some offpiste tracks of your own.

The area is littered with deep car swallowing soft areas and tyre shredding rock reefs exposed by the shifting winds.

The off road section is about 60KM and in total a 450km trip from Muscat

here's some shots !

The camp site, coral quite windy when we arrived so the vehicle wind break was made.

White coral sands littered with soft sponges, a not so wide expanse of dunes with the sea one side and the lagoon the other.

Probably the best child friendly location we've found yet, but only worth a trip if you have 4 days.
