Four Wheeler Magazine has a great story about finding and restoring a 1972 GMC Suburban 2500

There were hundreds of thousands of solid front axle Subs made, all the way through 1991.
I owned a 1987 and loved it.
That 72 is very, very cool

I sure like driving my '89 straight axle Sub. Going to put in a 1 ton full floater axle out back here as soon as I can find the time.

& now all the brands are going to IFS...

I know, it sucks, now the only way to get a truck that is as good as the older variants is to sink a tom of money ripping out all the "flat highway limo feel" designed suspension components, as desired by the soccer moms and wannabe off roaders shose trucks never even see flat perfectly smooth dirt roads, not to mention anything with a real off road need....... sigh......

Fixed up a tired 1968 2wd 6 cyl. delivery panel sub. Converted it to a deluxe suburban with about every factory option they offered on that model. Drove it all over the west back in the '80's. They are capable trucks but gas hogs.
