Battery Bulkhead Connectors?

Hi everyone,

I'm going to run some #2 wire from my starter battery through the firewall. Instead of using grommets, I'll be using some bulkheads for a cleaner and easier install. Some of the issues that I have to think about is resistance and isolation / protection. I definitely don't want to short the positive bulkhead sometime in the future! :) I've been thinking of ordering these:

Does anyone have a better idea? I'd probably paint (enamel) and silicone the crap out of them. The wiring will be fused at both ends anyway, so in case of a short, one or both fuses will pop.

Thanks,
js.

More of the first option:

I've also seen the QD's typically used on welder's for the leads used for battery cable disconnects at a bulkhead, but that doesn't sound quite like what you're looking to do.

I spent quite some time searching for 'firewall bulkheads' but really I should have been searching for 'battery bulkhead connectors'. There's a subtle difference -- this last one will bring up marine-type connectors! :-D So, I found this one, which looks a lot better:

If you have the space. They require a 2.75" diameter hole.
I like the first ones you found, that's what I use. They only require a 1 17/64" hole. They are also available with red or black insulation.

If anyone uses those, I suggest using the Tweco brand, they are more commonly available in the US, in my experience. Any welding supply shop carries them, and I think ACE Hardware carries Tweco, though not as broad a range. Mostly just the male and female cable ends are available at ACE.
