Battery rankings?

I'm looking for a ranking of the most commonly available, "best" batteries out there.

I'm in need of a new starting battery and I'm wondering if there has been an unbiased test done somewhat recently. Optima vs Die Hard vs Duralast, etc

Thanks!

I work in the battery industry and test/sell all brands, I only use Odyssey/Die Hard Platinum batteries in my vehicles if that tells you anything.

Consumer Reports lists Diehard (odyssey not tested) at or near the top in most all their battery groups. Platinum in the group it's tested and Diehard Gold in most others.

Looking for a particular group?

I've heard great things about the Die Hard Platinum, I'm just hesitant to spend over $200 on a battery unless it is worth it. Thanks for the feedback.

The battery groups shown to fit my vehicle are 34/78 and 75/25. Any recommendation as to which I should go with? It seems the 34/78 has higher capacity and cranking amps, so I would imagine that would be the way to go. Any flaws in my thinking?

Run the biggest one that you can fit if your running lots of accessories. I'm running 2 PC2150 group 31's.

Another post in support of the Odyssey/Die Hard Platinum batteries - the group 31 in my 89 Dodge Cummins has never failed me :)

Mine didn't fail - but after a year, they (two of them - one was the deep cycle marine version) would only hold about 80% charge.

Sears replaced both of them under warranty.

I've since sold the Jeep - so I don't know how the new ones fared.

I'm reading a few reviews online and I see a lot of side terminal failures in the Die Hard Platinum. This is important since my factory wiring hooks up to the side terminals. Does anyone know if this is an old problem that's been fixed, or is it exaggerated?

I've never heard of that problem but it's easy to change out your cables to top post. I converted mine to the stud style...

In group 34/78 C/R lists Diehard Gold 50534 then Diehard Gold 50690 both at about $100. Then three different Ever Start Maxx batteries.
