Bill...here are some real helpful articles that help to spell out some ideas and concepts, and it's a great read. If you want, I'll untarp the rig and get a few pics of the panel and converter if that will will help....it's no biggie

Amperage.
Using the Overland Journal water analogy, it's like filling a pool with a squirt gun.
My Battery Tender is a 2 amp unit.

Series it is; sweet.

Martyn, would a pair of these 6-volters in series charge in 5 hours with your 20 amp smart charger then? This would seem ideal; these batteries were made for serious abuse...

I don't know that much about golf cart batteries to be able to give you an educated answer. Elcoyote may have a better answer for you.

vented?

Bill,

I am reading through the links you got above, one said
A word of Caution: If you have decided to add additional batteries to your rig, be sure to either use the existing battery compartment or a compartment specially designed and vented for batteries. Never place batteries in an unvented compartment as potentially explosive hydrogen gas will build up. Never place batteries in any compartment where electrical sparks or other ignition sources may exist.
So the question is the Conqueror vented?

Maybe that was written before the advent of sealed batteries?
Regardless, I've been charging my battery with the nose open and a smoke detector above it...

I've got the trailer pulled apart in the garage now; I had to pull out almost all the shelves and other mods I made --- the fridge is a much different shape than the cooler we were using. I built a holder for it on the slide and am building a bulkhead to keep loose material away from the unit's vents. Will reposition the shelf above too.

Thanks for the links; need to find time today to look at them...

I bought a Sears Diehard Platinum group 31 and smart charger. Camped the other day and left the fridge running for 3 full days; when I got home the charger said that the battery was at 60%.
That's enough for most of our needs.
