Bedcover advise.

I love my tool box I have. I call it my man purse. It's has everything I'll ever need in it. But I have a single cab. I tried the roll up bedcover route. But after putting it on tonight it isn't water proof! And if I'm going to install a bedcover it needs to be at least that. Since my fail tonight I thought about a undercover for it's easy removal and install. But it's not going to allow me to keep my toolbox. My mother of all folks is telling me to look into a camper shell. I don't know what to do but it needs to be water proof

I like my camper shell. Miss my toolbox a bit though. Once I get better organized it'll be all good.

But here's where I struggle. Yeah I've seen cool shells but I'm 25, the truck is a 2wd. If it was 4x4 I'd total jump on the hardcore expo look but I feel as if something is missing to make it legit. Maybe I just have little truck syndrome. The only reason I want to keep the truck is because its almost paid off. Or wise I'd start all over with a 4x4. The truck is a single cab..... Obviously I'd get more doors too if I traded it.

How about a softtopper? I don't miss having a toolbox with my campershell anymore after building some organization into the bed. In fact I really like having a shelf right behind my cab, and storage boxes along the sides of the bed. I'm 26, so not much older than you, and after having a campershell for awhile I would rather have the shell than 4wd, believe it or not. I've camped out of the back of my truck many times in many different places and it is really nice to just park, crawl in the back and sleep.

I wouldn't sweat the 2wd, I rarely, if ever, shift my truck into 4 unless there is snow or mud. Otherwise I just hit it in 2wd. I have found that clearance and gearing is much more important than 4wd. There are many times I would much rather have a smaller truck so I think the truck you have rocks. Reg cab, short bed, 2wd(simplicity), and in good shape. That is about all you need to go to 95% of the places I would want to go. If you really want some capability get a locker or lsd, and add on some prerunner stuff. But you don't need anything more than what you have to go plenty of places. In my opinion it is the way you use a vehicle that is more important than the things it has. The desire to go somewhere and following through with that desire is the most important part, and using what you have is the simplest, most direct way to get out there.

Your truck would look good with a 3" spindles in the front and a 2-3" block in the rear.
Simple and cheap lift. and still keep the ride quality.
Fabtek makes nice stuff!

Id probably just look at getting a shell unless youre willing to bite the bullet and get a larger cab truck. I wouldnt do that though. Your truck looks great and the best vehicle is the paid for vehicle.

Get a different toolbox/chest.
Instead of one that sets on top of the rails, get one that sets on the floor and is no taller than the rails. Then get a bed cover/tonneau that goes over it.

Another vote for a Softopper. I have one on my 07 Ram 2500 Cummins and it is great - 99% waterproof after seam sealing and folds forward and out of the way when not needed. You can also run it with the sides and back rolled up for a nice safari look. http://www.softopper.com/
And don't sweat the 2wd - truck looks good and 2wd is still functional and great for exploring.

2wd with a locker, add a winch or better yet a front and rear receiver for portable winch, and enjoy the lack of payments and better fuel mileage. I would do the cap as well- try for one with the tool box on the driver side and a window on the pass side, both of which lock and flip up. Rear barn doors to boot... And just get to doing some exploring!! Enjoy

Yea thats why i love my suburban cause i have the 3rd row taken out and middle folded down so i have tons of room that is enclosed and protected so i can have all the my took or whatever and sleep back there if i need to

. I agree though with that i rarely have to go in 4wd to get somewhere, its nice to have in snow or mud but most 4wd that people have are basically 2 open diffs so a locker would give u the same amount of drive tires lol. Id probably go with the soft top those looks pretty cool and convenient and waterproof

Another option for your would be a prerunner style desert truck which would work well most places. A locker and some dirtbike style driving skills would get you more places than most people could imagine. Add a simple fiberglass cap and you have my mental image of the perfect lightweight exploring truck. 4wd is for going slow, long travel suspension is for getting there fast.
