Best A/T Tire for My '08 Taco?

That being the case, you might want to consider the BFG Rugged Trail...

I have to disagree here. I had them in my 01 Taco and they were the worst tire I've ever had. And I've had some pretty bad ones. At first, they seemed ok. Then they just got exponentially worse and worse. In the rain/snow, almost no grip to the point they got downright dangerous. This was with 60-70% tread left. Lasted maybe 30k? of mostly highway driving.

There is a reason why they're nicknamed Ragged Fails.

I am currently running Nitto Terra Grapplers 285/75/17 on my FJ and really like them so far. They only have about 5k on them but I already like them better than the BF Goodrich AT tires. Drove some Goodyear Wranglers and chewed them up way too fast. Spent some time off road with the Terra's and when they are air down do a good job of grabbing working the terrain. The side walls are stiff and have good on road handling.

mastercraft courser at2. i've had them on teh wife's fj for about 45k and have only rotated them once and they are still runnable for this winter. had a set of 265/75's on my 08 4 door. i loved them. these are the best winter tire i have ever run. i aired them dowm to about 20# this winter when i was running around town and it handled snowy/icy roads with ease. same for my wifes fj.

not knocking the bfg at's but i have run them on a 97 nissan x-cab and they did not do as well as the mastercrafts. i realize this is apples to oranges but a close camparison anyy way.

as a side note. i had no rubbing issues what so ever with these tire and size on my 08. hope this helps

+1 for the mastercraft's. I didn't really want them at first. They do not "look" as pleasing as others. But, they do perform well. I was going to go with grabber at2 but they were on back order. I have put them throw 130 miles all offroad in sharp shale rock, mud, gravel. A lot of time at 70mph. Very predictable. The only thing "bad" is that on some of the sipe cuts in the tire where over looked and not cut. But the sidewalk held up just fine.
My buddy runs the duratracs on his gx470 and he loves them too. I may step to those net time.

I hated my BFG Rugged Trails, they wore out really fast. (And I drive like a grandma.) I replaced them at 13k! Not much grip in the snow either.
x2...I can't imagine getting 100K+ on rugged trails...I felt lucky to get 25000...I always felt like they were a lousy compromise in every situation...and BAD in snow

I have the Yokos...Geolander ATs...almost 40K so far and at least 1/3 tread left...I don't do anything more than fire/FS roads though...they have been pretty good tires...quiet and even wear

Almosty every truck i see around here has Toyo's of some sort on them. We even run the ATs on our ambulances. They wear great and work pretty well getting the 14000lb ambulance through the desert sand.

I'm looking at the ******** Cepek FC-II. Kind of an AT/MT cross. There is a good review somewhere on the forum. Just wish they had a better selection of sizes and weight ratings.

Hey,

I just logged back on and realized I started a thread and then abandoned it! Sorry!

I ended up putting 285/75/R16 Yoko Geolander AT's on. They're a nice tire for all terrain. I'll post a pic or two if I can. I also added a ready lift 2" spacer to the front and 1" to the rear. The tires rub the UCA on full turn, but nothing major.
