Best Awning?

Who makes the best awning in terms of easy of setup and indestructibility? Must be mounted to a roof rack and on option for walls would be nice.

I really have only seen the Hannibals, but know there are more out there.

We use the Fiamma and Eezi Awn brands.

The Eezi Awn allows you to add walls which is a nice feature.

The Fiamma is well made, light weight, and durable.

I know a few people using this one:

We have an Fiamma on Boomer. It is an older unit but works very well and is easy to deploy and retract. It isn't currently set up for curtains/walls/bug-netting, but we're adding that feature this spring.

How does it mount? I can't tell from the photo. At $89.95 vs. $300+ for a permanently mounted retractable awning, it is certainly an option.

I e-mailed Shady Boy's U.S. distributor for a current price quote. I'll post their reply.

I don't remember exactly. I just sent a PM to Moody, he used to work at Kirkhams and will know for sure...

It seems to me that the Hannibal awning is the easiest to set up since it's "stakeless." I invented that word. The Hannibal awning doesn't have ground legs, but horizontal supports from the rig. Which I totally dig that design.

I think that's the easiest. As such, those supports need to be heavy duty, negating any kind of possibility for a shoestring budget. :)

It has a couple of long ties to tie it onto your factory/aftermarket/whatever rack. There is a collapsible pole along that mounting edge to keep it stretched out.
I own one, and it is very well made...Pretty darn good size for under 100 bucks. Their shipping is very reasonable as well.

How long does it take you to setup?

I have to agree with articulate on this one, the Hannibal is awsome! The sides are fantastic if it's a little windy (we also use it as a shower stall). I did add one little feature to it though, the three walls are wonderful, but the truck sits a little high and the wind whips right under. I made a skirt for the truck side out of an old tent which attaches to our slider. The sides can be a little cumbersome to put on, but the awning itself is a snap.

There are two small down sides to the Hannibal; rain tends to collect in a pool and you have to push it up to drain it off (make sure your buddy isn't standing under the corner), and the price is a little steep, but after the number of times we've used it I stopped fussing about the price a long time ago.
