Best dual battery options?

I'm about to purchase a 98' Isuzu trooper in order to start building my first overland/adventure vehicle. I'm wanting to install a second "auxiliary" battery in order to run 12v sockets for charging doodads overnight, auxiliary lights and possibly a fridge. I've been doing a little research hear and at planetisuzoo and it's a bit overwhelming coming from a cold start. What methods should I be researching? Dual alternators? Hi output alternator? Expensive relay kits? Any nudges in the right direction are appreciated.

You can fit a pair of Optima group 34s sideways on the factory battery location, I think somebody makes a mount for that.

But from what you have said, you would be better off in the OBB club (one big battery). Drop a group 31 in there and you will actually have more usable power, and carry one of those little lithium jump starters as backup. This is what I did, and I run a fridge and a CPAP overnight with no issues whatsoever.

Actually, as an example, a pair of Odyssey 1500 G34s gives you more ah than an Odyssey 2150 Extreme G31. The 2150 is rated at 100ah, vs the 1500 at 68ahx2=136ah. Plus, a pair of G34s gives you some redundancy and the ability to isolate or combine the batteries when appropriate. If you can fit a pair of 34s without a lot of cutting and welding, I'd be inclined to go that route.
