did you look through this section? there is a boat load of info here.

Sorry, didn't want to search much, you never seem to find exactly what you're looking for.

Also I sorta need to clarify the term trail, I meant foot/hiking trail.

I'll look at the options posted here and more.

Thanks.

I have a Garmin Legend HCX.

Color screen and hand held. It has the track feature. Dots are left that mark the path you took. You can then upload the dots to your map source software and load it into Google Earth so you can see exactly where you were.

It also have on road nav features, shopping, dining, gas, and much more. It has auto correct and will recalculate your route if you take a wrong turn.

It's also water proof.

I have been happy with my Garmin GPSMap 76Csx. Hiking, driving (attach to laptop via USB) and canoeing.

The new DeLorme PN-40 has done a good job at meeting the dual needs of in vehicle and out of vehicle weather it be on foot, bike or boat.

Most importantly it has a new faster processor which allows the PN-40 to be more responsive than the PN-20.

It is not the largest screen for in-vehicle nave but it serves well as a dual purpose gps unit.
