Best/largest battery

What is the largest single battery for 2000 Taco? I want to replace my battery and do not want to install a dual system as I intend to only drive this vehicle two more years and dont want to sink alot of money in a dual system. I have been fine with a factory size battery but have recently added a canopie with LED lights and intend to add more current draw.

I would think a 27 series would fit with out to many complications. Go check out the odyssey website and they make some bigger series, just maynot have the metal case arounfd them for under the hood. so sears diehad 27 series would be a good choice in my opinon.

That would be me. I went with the big deep cycle model as I don't plan on going to a dual battery system anytime soon.

That is what I am planning to do. As you will find if you research all the threads (I did), It has been confirmed from the manufacturer that the DieHard Platinum batteries are the same as the Odyssey units. A group 31 will fit in the 05+ stock location. Both the regular automotive or the Deep Cycle Marine will work. Both have some deep cycle capability.

Any of these will work. Excellent warranty and less expensive than the Odyssey. You should be able to pick one up at your local Sears. I have not personally picked one up yet, but I have ready plenty of the threads from people that have and they say starting power, especially in cold weather, is excellent and reserve capacity is great for running fridge/freezer, etc.

Another vote for the Odyssey PC1700, I went with the one with metal jacket for the extra protection. They squeeze right into the stock location with minor spacers added to fit the stock hold down clamp.

I have also seen lots of good feedback on the Sears Platinum option since they are made by Odyssey. That would be a good option to check out. Going that route, you would save some $ and pick up the added benefit of the Sears warranty convenience.

Actually they're made by the same company, Enersys. Odyssey doesn't make batteries (they're a brand name). There's only a handful of companies out there that do manufacture them (Enersys, Johnson Control, etc.) There's one or two other big players who I can't remember at the moment. A lot depends on location and shipping more than anything else. Its all about $$$ as usual.

Most of the common ones are by Johnson Control (Exide, Interstate, Delphi, AC Delco, Motorcraft, Duralast, Diehard Gold/Weatherhandler, etc.) Enersys makes the higher-end units from similar brands (Odyssey, Diehard Platinum, Diehard SUV, Exide Ironclad, etc.)

I put an Odyssey PC1200MJT in my truck. The only modification that was needed was a new hold-down arm because the Odyssey is shorter than the HUGE stock Toyota Battery. I could have either made a 1 1/2" spacer out of wood for the bottom, or make a new hold-down for the top.

FYI: 2 x PC1200MJT's will fit in the stock location for a dual-battery setup. I will be adding a 2nd PC1200MJT when I get home.

The Odyessey PCT1700 MJT fits great in the 05+ Tacomas, the only issue was the hold down so I made one for it.

I installed a group 31 in my 2004 Tacoma. Several of us done this. I used a Lifeline, though Deka and Odyssey are also great. With a small solar system, it is enough for all but the most serious loads.

I put the Diehard P-4 (has both top and side terminals) in my Disco (biggest I could fit).

Exide makes their own batteries.

I would only mount it inside the cab, if it can be placed inside one of the battery boxes. A vent line can be run from this box, through a hole, to the outside world. Battery acid and gasses are bad news in a rollover or other types of accidents.

The exact battery I got for my dual battery system, I am running a frig, camera system, nav, and anything else I need while camping I haven't been able to run it down really far even with my frig running all day in 115F temps . I think its a keeper:victory:
