Best shocks for towing

I am getting ready to purchase a Tentrax trailer (approx 600 lbs dry) to pull behind my 04 Rubicon TJ. I currently have Pro Comp MX6 Adjustable shocks on there now and like them for wheeling. I need to change them due to the rear ones are pretty bad.

My question is are the MX6's a good shock to tow with? I have never towed with a Jeep before. Now sure if I should look into something else that works well for wheeling and towing.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Benny.

Not a fan of the adjustables, at least not the set I had. Didn't meet my needs at all.

Bilstein 5150's (5100 with an attached reservoir) are about the best bang for the buck IMO. Might as well go with custom valved 7100's or Fox 2.0's if you want more shock than that.

5100's would probably do almost the same job, reservoirs will help prevent fade. I can't imaging you having more than 100 lbs of tongue weight so it shouldn't be that big of a deal.

Correct spring's will probably make the biggest difference. Make sure your bumpstops are effective and your shocks aren't your bumpstops. That will kill any shock in short order.

:sombrero: I have been using a setof RS9000XL (adj) shocks for over 3 years, towing my Tentrax over the freeway/Sierras/sand and-

They have been fabulous for quick changing/w swaybar loose and rocking /w trailer--

If they ever wearout, I'll get the same ones and I won't trust/depend on the remote options

Good luck

A small trailer like that will have almost no impact on your rear shocks, not enough tongue weight to matter. As long as you have a decent spring setup you will not have any issues there either.

My jeep weighs 5200lbs and close to 5800lbs when loaded, the trailer weighs 900/1000lbs, so I'm very happy with my choise of shocks-whether the trailer is an influence-ornot !

My Pro Comp's I believe are about the same as the Rancho's.

Jimbo, thanks for the pics. Glad to hear you do not have any issues towing the trailer I will be about the same, only i'm a two door. Did the spare tire mount on the back of your trailer come with it or did you add it aftermarket?

Thanks for the replies,

Benny.

You'll have to quickly learn the backing/turn limits, because backing up with a short trailer can be dangerous--

I've said this dozens of times and everytime I do, Hildweller gets more disgusted with me, but-

When towing the Tentrax off-road, when you run into directional/obstacle/deadend situations---you can just unditch the Tentrax and turnit around/moveit over or backit somewhere else--BY YOURSELF-

I made the sparetire carrier from a jeep JK tailgate carrier and the gas can holders are aftermkt too-

I didn't get the stock Tentrax tent, which is really great--I modded mine and use an "Airzone" tent and inflateit with my jeeps OBA-
