Beware of this Wanna Be 2005 on EBay

I came upon this listing on EBay today. I chatted with the seller and if this is a full Defender 110 then I have been driving a Lamboghini and not known it for all these years. Be very careful and don't let your friends get excited. Despite having a Georgia Title my guess is any state that knows anything will question the legality of a 2005 not too mention for your own safetey the thing looks like a lot of cars put together. Note the Range Rover 3.5 engine and Rangey auto shifter.
Just thought I'd point it out as a friend called me all excited.
Cheers,
Will

I know I sound like a broken record, but, having a State Title means very little when it comes to the legitimacy of a vehicle. Local DMV offices may or may not run VIN checks, then may or may not look to see if the VIN plate on the vehicle matches the VIN on the title.

Some States are know as easy States, and that is where people with dodgy vehicles register them. Some States will even register a vehicle without even physically see it.

That is a fake VIN

I tried to run the VIN on some of the LR sites and they could not identify it.

I wonder what they did to get in in the system the first time??

2005 Wanna Be Defender

I actually spoke to the seller and he is an absolute W--ker. He basically said "I don't care. I'm selling it what it is titled as" Furthermore when you look at the underneath pics the amount of spray paint on the underside tells even more of a tale. I also chatted to lads in the UK who's sticker is inthe window and they were just lost for words. The vehicle came in through Canada without an engine. Someone is going to end up being very unhappy when they think they got a 2005 Defender and really got a mix bag of rubbish thrown together to get you down main street.

The seller is really arrogant and told me he knows way around the legality of this truck. I feel sorry for who everbuys it because all they are getting is a bunch of headaches.

Here's the response I got from him via email when I told him the truck was illegal and was reporting him...

"Have at it sport. Nothing improprietous here except that you are not an able buyer."

Well enough people must have complained because EBay removed it. A friend of mine removed his bid after he found out through another Land Rover Forum it was a fake defender. Glad no one got suckered......yet.

this is the his last email to me:
"Bored? Or just sitting in your mother's basement dreaming about being a real player.......?

It is sold, to a dealer who knows all about Defenders, you might want to study up.

I'll not respond to you anymore, find someone else to fantasize about, you are blocked. "

Funny, I offered him 10k for it..so if he did sell it to a dealer and I wonder who, and is this POS gonna come back around again.

I am surprised a "Licensed and bonded" car dealer would allow that on his lot.

I'd think that trying to sell a grey-market vehicle might make the bond holder nervous.

Seems to me a big RED flag would be the statement "First of all we do not guarantee anything about this vehicle including year, make, model, origin, authenticity or any of the information we have received concerning this vehicle so please act accordingly"

Doubtful that a knowledgable dealer bought it. That was probably the first mean-spirited thing that the fraud artist could think to say.

the head liner looked interesting. Like it was simply glued onto the underside of the roof.
