Big Gas tank, Jerry Cans, or both?

That tank is cool. I keep trying to figure out a place to make use of it.

My issue there is the back to the Jeep is pretty much taken over by the Dog(s). 1 80lb akita/gsd mix and soon a flat coated retriever.

Man.. I shouldn't have allowed the Ex to keep the Rubi JK :)

nwoods,

The Genright Safari tank comes with the skid. Even though they say 30 it is really 32 gallons. I can go 350 miles before might fuel light comes on and go 450 before I suck it dry. Yes, $1000 is a step price to pay, but it has been my favorite purchase for the jeep. If the choice had to be made I would drive a completely stock LJ and just have safari. It is that nice having the range.

alosix,

Sadly, with the TJ you are limited to the smaller 26 gallon tanks, but I feel it would be worth it.

Aerotank informed me today that they do not make a tank for Jeeps more current than 2003, so looks like GenRight is definately the way to go. I sure wish I didn't have to pay taxes right now.

Ah, yeah.. forgot about that. Guess if I ever want to do that Hemi conversion that's in the back of my mind I'd need a Genrite 03+ tank..

Damn the choices :)

I opted for both: a 26 gallon aux fuel tank under body where the spare tire used to go and a five gallon jerry can on the spare tire rack. With this combo plus the OEM fuel tank, I can carry about 46 gallons of fuel.

In this pic, you can just barely see the skid plate for the 26 gallon fuel tank (plus the five gallon Wedco jerry can):

I used a NOS Blazer diesel tank I got from Coleman's Surplus (PA) for $25 plus shipping. Fits perfectly behind my Toy's rear axle, although I did have to cut out the rear cross brace and replace it.

I use gravity feed to OEM tank, "refueling" on photog stops, water breaks and overnight; essentially whenever I need fuel and the vehicle is stopped; simple turn of a 1/4 turn ball valve. I used the OEM tank fill port available from NW Metal Products.

I have the 30 gal? (big *** LJ) tank from Genright. Out of all of your options as usual you get what you pay for. The Genright is top notch and I do not regret at all sinking the cash into it. It came with easy to follow instructions and fit correctly, which is not always the case with the aftermarket stuff. From the time I have spent messing around with cans I wouldn't trade out the extra hassle of cans for the larger tank. If I remember correctly the Genright actually has better clearance. It is definitely not breakin' even if it does drag. It is nicey nice.
