Another food not available in box stores but used by native Americans as a
concentrated fructose / glucose sweetener, and great for everything from
adding to coffee to pancake toppings. Here's one families birch syrup offering,
a few drops goes a real long way;

I haven't looked for dehydrated granulated birch sugar but I imagine that's
available by order or could be easily made given a quantity of syrup.
