Black plastic restoration trick.

Well i went work on my jeep and decided i would share an awesome trick for plastic restoration on your fender flares and such. This is a method i learned a long time ago in the vw days. First go buy yourself a super expensive product called "Kiwi Leather Dye" NOT POLISH......DYE from walmart for a whopping $4.50!!:Wow1: and thats the long list of supplies. Next either remove the plastic or tape it off which is very easy to do. Then scrub down the plastic with a mild detergent and let dry and then wipe down with alcohol. Now use the applicator on the leather dye to apply to the plastic and be Obama....I mean liberal with it :sombrero: It will soak this up over the next 5 min or so. Just wipe it down with a soft cloth and touch up any spots that need it. This application should last a year or more and when it wears off..... you have enough to repeat the process for the next 20 years.I don't have pictures on hand but here is one that might give you an idea

That sounds perfect. Painting sucks because you have to remove the pieces or mask. This is just wipe on -wipe off.

I just use Tire Wetter. Never had a problem. I just do it when I wash the vehicle. I like you idea though!!!

The problem with tire wetter and others is it is an every time you wash application. This way you are back to showroom finish for a year. And you doing have to use nasty chemicals to do it either.

Man you rock. I was just looking at my faded finders flares today thinking I would have to take them off and paint them. Very cool. I will give it a try next week.

I will be doing mine later this week as well.If anyone beats me to it post up pics for everyone to see. I first am making a raingler style net for the upper front of my jeep out of 550 paracord. Should cost me $10. and be just as strong. I will post that later this week too for you guys.

Been there done that and its a pain. you have to make sure to do the prep just right or you will do the whole thing and then get bubbling in on area. Plus down the road if it scratches it is harder to touch up and get even. Basically you will have to strip it back down and start all over.
