I have a new 2012 Ram Megacab, diesel 4x4. I'm looking to set it up as a very moderate outback/offroad vehicle.
Like many here, I enjoy the tips and tricks but too many of them are geared towards cross-country or cross-continent expeditions. I plan to use my truck for (in simple terms) camping. Dirt roads and maybe an occasional trip to the desert. I live in the southwest so there is plenty of that here.
I'm looking for ideas and realistic modifications that can make those weekends easier and more enjoyable. Things like gear-packing solutions, racks, lights, etc... What have you done to your truck?
Things I plan on doing once I find some money:
Tires - Nothing drastic because I do pull a trailer and already need to drop the hitch.
Nerf Bars/Step Rails - I'm not sure if I want to go Wheel-to-wheel or just cab length. Thoughts?
Bed Rails - Possibly some sort of headache rack too. I have a sliding back window so I'm not sure how that will look.
Tonneau cover - Folding or rolling. I'm not sure on this one because they have always looked like they just get in the way.
Bully Bar, winch, lights up front - I like the Westin with a warn winch. What have you done up front to yours?
Thule Cargo Rack - On top of the cab but with the sunroof I'm not sure if it would work.
I know it seems like I'm way below the caliber of the vehicles here but I figured this would be the place to go. Any pictures or other feedback would be great.
-Cheers
