Went up to South Park this past Sunday for 3 nights with my daughter. We spent Sunday and Monday camping on our property just south of Antero Resevoir. On Tuesday we did a little fishing, then headed up to do Breakneck Pass and Browns Pass. What a nice trip. It took us about 2 1/2 hours, that includes all the stops we made. The 4wd Adventures book rates the trail as a 3. Having done a number of trails in this book I would actually rate it a 4, at least during this time of the year. At the begining of the road there is a very deep mud bog and near the top of Browns Pass there is a short but very steep section with some tricky rocks in the center of the trail. It may be a little easier once things dry up a bit. I highly recommend it for anyone in Colorado. It starts out with some mud, changes into a rocky climb, turns into a nice smooth dirt road along the ridge, the a steep rocky decent, a nice dirt road through a high mountain meadow, then another steeper rocky climb and decent. At the end are two stream crossings, about 10-14" deep. Along the way is some nice scenery and numerous mining cabins and buildings. We could not have had better weather during the drive and timing. Twenty minutes after finishing the trip it started to snow. We spent the night at my sisters in Alma and woke up to 3" of snow! Here's a link to some pictures of the trip. If you view it as a slide show it will play the two videos at the end.
