Bringing a MAN chassis to the USA/Canada

I understand that the US DOT will not permit a european MAN chassis to be imported, does anyone know if canada allows this?

Also, is there anyway to modify a MAN to allow it to be imported to the US? Any idea of the cost and where to do this?

Thanks.

The only reasonable way is to import a 15 year old chassis to Canada, or a 25yo chassis to the US. At those ages they are exempt in their respective countries.
Engine mods can be done fairly easily for pre 2004 chassis but passing the DOT safety specs is impossible unless by chance the truck already meets it.
If you are a tourist you can bring anything in - for a year.

i cant say for sure as i dont really know, but the guy at Mross is VERY knowledgable about importing, he mainly does the Unimog and Mercedes trucks but im sure he knows something about the MAN's or knows someone you can talk to, super nice guy and very straight with you. not your average dealer!

he is in Vancouver, BC but is worth a call if your anywhere in canada

Thanks,
it looks like it is quite impossible to import new spec European chassis to North America even if you are willing to pay for a conversion. Does anyone know where I can find a detailed specification of DOT requirments as I haven't been able to find one?
