Broken Disco Cargo Door Hinges

I have been noticing for a while that my cargo door has been starting to sag. I put replacing them on my long long to do list for this rig but hadn't got to it yet. I was jacking up the rear end the other night to check the wheel bearings and I heard a snap, both hinge pins snapped. I guess I forgot to close the door and the body flex did it. This ever happen to anyone else?

If anyone happens to have a spare set in their parts stashed I would be interested.

There may have been a recall

I seem to remember this happening to two of my Discos. Call and ask if there was a recall your truck needed. If not, maybe it was just a common issue I can not remember. If you have a larger than normal spare then yes it would be more common.

Sorry no spares as I sold the trucks.

I'll check into the recall thing. I quit driving it when that happened so I don't know how secure it is back there, but that could be a fun drive down to the nearest dealer in Denver if there is a recall. Have to rig it up with some straps or something.

Mine broke when I was driving and my dog was in the back. I looked back to see a troubled look on my lab's face, and the door wide open at 30mph. I ended up getting replacement hinges from Atlantic British.

If there is a recall, there should be provisions for a tow in if the problem occurs to you. I had a friend with a Focus who suffered the infamous "wheel falling off" issue and... he didn't have to drive it in. :Wow1:

Well, I got a Fed Ex package today from Roverland with some used hinges in it. They are even black, so I don't think I'll paint them even though my disco is green. Now I just have to get some time to get them put them in this week.

Just out of curiosity, did those of you who had this problem have extra loads on the rear doors? I'm wondering how much of an extra load oversized tyres and jacks place on the hinges.

I don't really have any extra weight on my truck, just the 235 size spare on the stock bracket.

I had cargo door sag on the '04. I did have a ladder on it and I'm 200#. The dealer replaced the hinges under warranty.

Well after dragging my *** on the project for a month, I finally pulled the rover into the shop and replaced the hinges yesterday. It was a lot easier than I expected, but I was using a ceiling crane and a forklift.
