So I just picked up a new to me 2004 limited montero and am trying to baseline it and work out any bugs. The sunroof doesnt work, the motor makes awful noises but doesnt open. I found a thread that detailed how to fix, said that the motor mounting screws are most likely loose. Well they were 2 had fallen out, I replaced them and tightened everything up but now it moves a bit but doesnt really open before making more horrible noises. I removed the glass and tried to inspect the rails but I don't really know what it should look like. I can't find any specific info on what else to do. I read that it might need to be reinitialized but tried those steps and nothing happened. I don't even know what the buttons are supposed to do, is pushing forward close and pulling back on the button open? what does pushing up on the button do? When they say to turn on and off the ignition 5 times while holding the button do they mean turn on the car or just turn it one click or 2 clicks? its all very vague. I'm worried the tracks are off the rails and thats why it moves a bit and then binds but I am not sure how to get them back on if that is the problem. Any one have any ideas?
