I am currently in the middle of a 6 weeks stretch of work in the town of Kincardine which is in southwestern Ontario, Canada.
This week instead of making the 3 hour trip home, I would stay the weekend. I have done this many times before, and the area is beautiful.
My brother came up for the day today, we did some mountain biking and then went to do a few hours of exploring.
Most of the area is quite developed but its all farmland and shoreline, so there are still a few remote "ish" areas that have some beautiful views.
Bruce County is famous for great beef and Nuclear Power. The two plants were originally built and owned by Ontario Hydro, which was the largest electrical utility in the world at one time, but about a decade ago it was broken up into several different companies, I currently work for the old Research Division. They are currently owned and operated by Bruce Power, each plant has 4 units each making roughly 900 MW. Part of my job includes collecting sediment in a few locations along the shore, that is how I discovered these places.
This is Bruce A, the older of the two plants, this picture is taken from quite a distance, they are huge buildings
Here are a few pictures from Scott Point, where the previous picture of the plant was taken, its pretty rocky shoreline around here, but nice to walk around and feel the breeze for half an hour.
Found this little Inukshuk, was tempted to make him a friend!
small little water crossing
Next we checked out a little area called Baie du Dore, there are several access roads, these pictures are from both. The one has a boat launch, this is a popular spot as the fishing is quite good. Fun fact, Baie du Dore in French translates it Bay of Walleye's
There used to be a University of Toronto research facility here, which was tore up in the late 80s, it used to have cabins and lodging for the researchers and workers, all gone now. Their fairly large boat dock however still remains, but in disrepair.
There is also a bird watching tower right near by
I am posting this picture because my brother smoked his head here pretty hard despite the sign
views from up top
few more pictures of the Xterra
The final access has a little parking area and direct drive access to the beach area, we didnt go too far out as I wasnt sure where it started getting really soft.
wasnt anything special but a fun way to kill a few hours and get outside!
